In the Indian Ocean region, the actors involved in research and development are numerous and geographically dispersed. However, the coordination of actions is carried out through regional networks that are currently structured around key issues, targeting current and future challenges. These networks demonstrate their effectiveness and generate rich and diverse pools of data and information.

In this context, it seems relevant to develop a tool, Carto-OI, which identifies, structures, analyses and makes available data and information to the various actors. This database will thus serve as a basis for state-of-art, prior to set up new research and development projects in the area.

The projects listed in Carto-OI involve at least two IOC Member States and countries of the Indian Ocean and/or the Indo-Pacific region and at least one research organization. For each project identified, research questions and objectives are specified; the deliverables, the scientific and development partners and the funding tool mobilized are described.
